Group overview
Itema is a leading global provider of advanced weaving solutions, including weaving machines, spare parts and integrated services. Born from the successful merger and acquisitions over the years of legendary brands in the textile machinery industry, such as Somet, Sulzer Textil and Vamatex, Itema has its global headquarters in Colzate, in Northern Italy’s Bergamo Province, in the Seriana Valley—cradle of the Italian textile industry.
The roots of Itema trace back to the entrepreneurial impulse and vision of Gianni Radici, who built up a solid Company, since 1967 at the pinnacles of the worldwide textile engineering industry. Itema is the only manufacturer in the world to provide the top three weft insertion technologies: rapier, airjet and projectile, with an ample product portfolio and a steadfast commitment to continuous innovation and technological advancement of its weaving machines.
In addition to weaving solutions, since 2017 Itema is diversifying into complementary, high-growth markets through stakes in innovation-driven companies, such as Lamiflex, leading supplier of technical composite products.
In 2019 Itema launched the new technical textiles division Itematech, born from the merger of know-how and expertise of Itema and Panter. In the same year, Itema acquired majority stakes in Schoch, leading producer of weaving accessories, including reeds, drop wires and other components.
Starting from 2021, Itemalab®, Itema’s innovation incubator, evolves into a new independent company and makes the excellence of textile machinery innovation available to all the industrial sectors: thanks to the twin divisions, Textile and Industrial, Itemalab® expands its perspectives and widens its field of action, providing customers and partners with system engineering and business process re-engineering skills.
In 2023, Itema concludes the joint venture with Tofflon Science and Technology Group Co. Ltd., Asiatic giant company in the pharmaceutical industry based in Shanghai. The joint venture Tofflonit (Tofflon Itema Srl) with a production site in Nibbia (Novara Province) aims at establishing a new reference point for biopharmaceutical industrial systems for European and Western markets.
With more than 1000 employees worldwide, two world-class production sites in Italy, one in Switzerland and one in China, Itema has a worldwide presence with commercial, aftersales and training centers in Italy, Switzerland, China, India, Japan, USA, Hong Kong, and Türkiye, and a trusted network of agents and distributors in more than 70 countries.
